From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Vincenzo Sospiri (born October 9, 1966 in Forli, Italy) is an Italian race car driver. He won the European F3000 championship in 1995 driving for the Super Nova team. He wanted to join the Simtek team at Estoril and race in the F1 in 1994, but he was unable to raise enough funds. In 1996 he was Benetton's test driver.
He finally got his chance in 1997 to race F1 at Lola but when he did not qualify and it was apparent the Lola Mastercard project had no hope of becoming competitive, Sospiri quit the team after the first race.
Vincenzo Sospiri has since turned his attention to other sports, driving the remainder of the 1997 season in the Indy Racing League. In 1998 and 1999, he won the Sports Racing World Cup with a Ferrari 333 SP, teaming up with Emanuelle Collard, and also drove in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He retired from racing in 2001.
