From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Edgar Barth (born 26 January 1917 in Herold-Erzgebirge, Germany; dead 20 May 1965) was a Formula One driver who raced for the EMW, Porsche and Cooper teams. He began his career as a DKW motorcycle raced and later switched to BMW sportscars. He won the 1959, 1963 and 1964 European Mountain Championships for Porsche and the 1959 Targa Florio. He participated four times in the German Grand Prix, the last one in 1964. Nine months later he succumbed to cancer. His son Jurgen also went into motorsport and won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1977 in a Porsche, with Jacxky Ickx and Hurley Haywood.
