From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Giancarlo Baghetti (born 25 December 1934 in Milan, Italy; dead 27 November 1995) was a Formula One driver who raced for the Ferrari, ATS (Ita), BRM, Brabham and Lotus teams. He began racing in 1955 in production cars, but didn't make a big impression until, in 1961, he raced in Formula One behind the wheel of a non-factory Ferrari, where he won on his debut in the French Grand Prix. He took part in two other Grand Prix races in 1961, retiring from both but setting a fastest lap at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, where his team mate Wolfgang von Trips was killed. In 1962 he joined Italian team ATS, with Phil Hill, which he quit in 1964. He eventually left Formula One and achieved some success in the European Touring Car Championshi with Alfa Romeo and Fiat Abarth. He won the 1966 1000cc Class Championship in an Abarth 1000. He retired from motorposrt on 1968 and started a new career in automotive and fashion photographer and publisher. In 1995 he died of cancer at the age of 60. In his whole career he won one race, achieved one podium, and scored a total of 14 championship points.
