From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Matt Jackson (born October 19, 1971 in Leeds) is an English football player. He is currently a defender for Wigan Athletic F.C. and wears shirt number 4.
He had initially come to Wigan on a month's loan from Norwich in November 2001 and would go on to form a formidable central defensive partnership with former teammate, Jason De Vos, that would lead the Latics to the Second Division Championship in the 2002/2003 season.
After De Vos left Wigan for Ipswich, Jackson again formed another sound partnership with Ian Breckin and helped Wigan to their second promotion in three years when they finished runners-up in the Coca-Cola Championship in 2004/2005. Now that Breckin has also left Wigan, it will be interesting to see how Jackson progresses in the Premiership to which he is no stranger to. Following the signing of Stephane Henchoz, Jackson is not in the Wigan 1st XI for the start of their Premiership debut season.
He was a FA Cup winner with Everton in 1995.
