From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia George Henry Camsell (November 27, 1902 - March 7, 1966) was an English football player, most notably for Middlesbrough.
He was born in Framwellgate Moor, Durham City in 1902 and played for Durham City before signing for Middlesbrough in 1925. Between 1924 and 1939, Camsell scored 418 goals in 325 games (including 345 league goals, the fifth-highest English total of all-time). The Middlesbrough club record of 59 goals in one season is his. He accomplished this feat in the 37 games of the 1926-27 season. This remains the second-highest number of goals scored in one English league season, behind Dixie Dean's 60. His goals included 24 hat-tricks for the club.
George Camsell also won 9 caps for England, scoring 18 goals. This included a hat-trick in a 6-0 win against Wales on November 20, 1929 and four goals in a match against Spain on May 15, 1929.
