Ami Suzuki (born February 9, 1983 in Zama, Kanagawa, Japan) broke into the Japanese pop market with her debut single under the Sony record label, "Love the Island" in 1998. Most (if not all) her songs under Sony were produced by hit producer, Tetsuya Komuro, who also produced hits for tops acts such as Namie Amuro and hitomi.

Ami Suzuki was released from her record label, Sony, after many legal problems regarding her contract and her managament company. During her time at Sony, Ami was one of the most successful recording artists there. Since her dismissal, Mika Nakashima and Sowelu have filled the void that was left by Ami. Now, Ami is signed to record label Avex Trax, along with many other popular artists, including rival Ayumi Hamasaki. She released her major comeback single, also her first Avex single, "Delightful" in early 2005 which reached #2 on the Oricon. Since then, shes released two other singles with a fourth and fifth on the way, as well as an album out on October 12, 2005.

Her limited editon single by the same name came in at #19 with sales over 5,000 copies. It has also been announced that Ami's next single will come out on November 30th. Notes

  • Was given the nickname "Amigo" by her classmates. Amigo means "Friend" in Spanish.
  • Made a some-what of a comeback in April 2004 when she released a photo book ("Tsuyoi Kizuna" aka "Strong Ties") and in August 2004 with an album on independent record label Bungei Shunju. The album made it to 21 on the Oricon charts.
  • She gave a rare performance at her school's, Nihon University, annual festival in autumn 2004. Avex producer Max Matsuura attended and signed Ami after her performance.
  • Disappeared from the public-eye after her parents sued her management/production company, AG Communications, in 2001 to end her contract. At that time, AG Communications was convicted of tax evasion. The Suzukis won in court, but afterwards, her radio show was cancelled, her role in a TV drama was taken out, she lost all of her endorsements, and her record label, Sony, dumped her.
  • In November 2003, her legal problems ended when her contract dispute with Sony Records was settled out of court.
  • Ami Suzuki has achieved total sales of over 8.6 million copies of all her albums and singles from her days with Sony to her present career with Avex Trax.
