From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Nona Hendryx (born October 9, 1944) is a vocalist known for her work as a solo artist as well as one-third of the trio LaBelle. With LaBelle, she became the major songwriter from the time of Nightbirds, writing powerful ballads like "You Turn Me On" from Nightbirds and more uptempo numbers like "A Man In A Trenchcoat (Voodoo)" for LaBelle's last album Chameleon.
Her music has ranged from soul, funk disco and R & B into Art rock and new age music. She has also sung backing vocals for the Talking Heads. Stylistically, she can sometimes be compared to Grace Jones or Chaka Khan.
Since 1989, Nona apparently has recorded more than five albums worth of music, but has been unable to release any of it due to lack of interest from major (or even independent) record labels. Some of it has apparently been made available via the Internet to little interest. Even her Epic, RCA and EMI albums have long been out of print and have failed to attract the attention of specialist reissue labels. In 2001 she discussed her bisexuality in an interview with the Advocate magazine.
