From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia
Bipasha Basu (born May 5, 1979 in New Delhi) is an Indian actress and model. She appears in Bollywood films and now lives in Mumbai. She is often regarded as a sex symbol. She is 5' 8" tall, light-eyed, and displays -- often in revealing clothing -- a curvaceous figure. Her first name means "deep, dark desire" in Bengali, but her friends call her Bips or Bonny.
Bipasha is the second daughter in her family. She was raised in Calcutta and studied for a business degree. Bipasha won the famous Ford Supermodels Contest at the age of seventeen; she was also named Tulips Miss Super Vivacious. Many modeling jobs followed.
From modeling to films is a common step in today's Indian movie industry. Bipasha's debut movie was Ajnabee (2001). The movie was fairly successful and Bipashu was quickly signed for more movies. She attracted a lot of attention with her roles in Raaz (2002) and Jism (2003). Jism was unusually explicit for Bollywood films. Bipasha bared lots of skin and kissed on screen.
She has also appeared in music videos, such as the famous Tu... for Sonu Nigam’s album, Kismat.
Awards
Bipasha has been nominated for two Filmfare Awards: Filmfare Best Actress Award for Raaz (2002) and Filmfare Best Villain Award for Jism (2003). She won the Filmfare Lux New Face Award for Ajnabee.
Personal life
The actress has dated actor Dino Morea; she is currently seen about town with actor John Abraham.
