Reece Shearsmith

Reece Shearsmith (born 27 August 1969 in Hull) is a British comedy performer and writer. Most famous for his work as part of The League of Gentlemen along with fellow performers Steve Pemberton, Mark Gatiss and co-writer Jeremy Dyson. He has the greatest female fanbase of the four Gentlemen.

Has made appearances in other comedy projects including Max and Paddy's Road To Nowhere as well as playing the insane villain Tony in the Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer comedy Catterick. He also apeared in two episodes of the award-winning pop-culture comedy Spaced as robot-wars obsessed TA soldier Dexter, and played neurotic doctor Flynn in the BBC 2 sitcom TLc which was written by The Weakest Link creator Fintan Coyle. His talent for talking gibberish instantly gives him the ability to play his more macabre characters like Papa Lazarou.

He currently lives in North London with his wife Jane Shearsmith and his two children - Holly and Danny.

The character Papa Lazarou that Reece plays in The League of Gentlemen series is said to be (very) loosely based on an old landlord, who would always ask to speak to Steve (who Reece was sharing a flat with at the time) this lead to Papa Lazarou's infamous use of the name "Dave" (because of its sounding similar to "Steve").
