From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia George Stroumboulopoulos (born August 16, 1972 in Toronto, Ontario), commonly nicknamed Strombo, is a Canadian television and radio personality. He is a fan favorite and one of the most respected of the MuchMusic video jockeys for his musical and political knowledge (a memorable 25-minute interview with U2's Bono ended with Bono stating "George, I am a fan.")
Stroumboulopoulos studied radio broadcasting at Toronto's Humber College. He was a board operator at Toronto sports radio station the Fan when he first emerged as an on-air personality, doing segments with host Jim Richards. Later a full program host at the Fan in his own right, and then a disk jockey at Edge 102 modern rock radio in Toronto, a move to television as a VJ and entertainment journalist at MuchMusic and Citytv Toronto made him a national celebrity.
In 2004, he was featured on CBC Television's The Greatest Canadian series as the advocate for Tommy Douglas. Evidently, his case proved most persuasive with Tommy Douglas, being the first one profiled in depth in the series, starting the contest at #1 and remaining there until the final tally declared him the winner.
In December 2004, Stroumboulopoulos left MuchMusic to host a major new live prime time news program on CBC Newsworld: The Hour. In September 2005, when Stroumboulopoulos was among most English language CBC staff locked out, he took on a Sunday night talk radio shift on Toronto's CFRB.
