From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Tetsuko Kuroyanagi (黒柳徹å Kuroyanagi Tetsuko, born August 9, 1933 in Tokyo) is a well-known Japanese TV personality.
Career
Kuroyanagi is best known for the morning talk show she hosts, "Tetsuko's Room," which at its inception in 1975 was the first daily talk show on Japanese television.
She is also known internationally for her charitable works and her best-selling children's book Totto-chan, the Little Girl at the Window, published in America in 1982.
Charitable Works
Kuroyanagi founded the Totto-chan Foundation, named for the eponymous and autobiographical protagonist of her book Totto-chan, the Little Girl at the Window. The Foundation professionally trains deaf actors, implementing Kuroyanagi's vision of bringing theater to the deaf.
Kuroyanagi has been a director of the Japanese branch of the World Wildlife Fund. Kuroyanagi has been a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF since 1984
Kuroyanagi brought the National Theater of the Deaf to perform with her in Japan.
