From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Douglas P., born Douglas Pearce, is an English musician who records under the name Death in June.
Pearce began his musical career in the political punk band Crisis in the late 1970s. After Crisis disbanded in 1981, Pearce formed Death in June with Crisis bandmate Tony Wakeford (currently of the English folk noir band, Sol Invictus) and Patrick O'Kill né Leagas (currently fronting English Pagan folk band, Sixth Comm).
The meaning of the name Death in June is obscure. Pearce claims it comes from mishearing something said by his bandmate Patrick Leagas during an early practice session and has no other significance. Others have claimed it is named for June 30, 1934, "Night of the Long Knives" when Hitler purged Ernst Roehm and his followers from the Nazi party. It is also notable that 'Death in June' is the name of a song on the soundtrack to the 1970s horror film 'The Wicker Man', often cited as an influence by Pearce and Tony Wakeford. Death in June has existed for over two decades.
