From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Richard Davis, a bass player of world renown, has been a Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1977 after establishing himself for 23 years in New York City, USA. He teaches bass, jazz history, and improvisation at the university and shares his thoughts on equality and peace with the students he comes into contact with. In the course of his career he has played classical and jazz bass all over the world and recorded a great deal of work both as a band leader and a sideman. He has played or recorded with many well-known figures in the musical world such as Sarah Vaughn, Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Igor Stravinsky, and Leonard Bernstein, to name a few.
