Steve Lombardi (born April 18, 1961 in Brooklyn, New York, New York) is an American professional wrestler and road agent, better known as The Brooklyn Brawler.
Career
Lombardi is often recognized as the most famous "jobber" in the history of World Wrestling Entertainment. As The Brooklyn Brawler, he had his only mid-card push in 1989, feuding with The Red Rooster. He was often used to portray masked characters such as Kimchee (the "handler" of the bestial Kamala) and MVP (a heel baseball player.) In late 1993, Lombardi briefly replaced the fired Matt Borne as Doink the Clown until he was in turn replaced by Ray Apollo.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the semi-retired Lombardi worked for WWE as a road agent, occasionally wrestling. In 2000, he lost decisively to The Rock, but, later in the year, scored a pinfall over then-WWF World Heavyweight Champion Triple H in a non-title three-on-one handicap match.
In April 2005, as part of an angle on WWE television, Lombardi adopted the moniker of The Boston Brawler, shedding his customary New York Yankees apparel in favor of Boston Red Sox clothing. This was done in response to the Red Sox' defeat of the Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series, which propelled the Sox to their World Series victory over the St. Louis Cardinals and the vanquishing of the "Curse of the Bambino" (the Red Sox had not won the World Series since 1918). It is not known if this is a permanent change or simply a one-time event (the event took place in New York City).
Personal Life
It has been rumored that Lombardi is in a long-standing homosexual relationship with Pat Patterson, whose homosexuality is considered the worst kept secret in professional wrestling. However, Lombardi allegedly harassed female wrestler Nicole Bass during a transatlantic flight following a WWF tour of Europe, leading to Bass' resignation from the WWF and a subsequent lawsuit, which was dismissed in 2002.
