From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia John Lombardo (born on 30 September 1952 in Jamestown, New York, USA) was one of the original guitarists for the folk-rock band 10,000 Maniacs. He was in the group from its inception in 1981 and then left the group in 1986 after its first major label album, The Wishing Chair, was released. Lombardo cited creative (as well as political) differences and emotional strain as his reasons for leaving the band.
Lombardo went on to form folk duo John & Mary with Mary Ramsey, who played violin and viola for 10,000 Maniacs and sang backing vocals on the 1993 album, MTV Unplugged.
Lombardo returned to the Maniacs in 1995 after Natalie Merchant's departure, with Ramsey joining as the new lead singer. Lombardo and Ramsey remained in the band for 7 years and two albums, 1997's Love Among the Ruins and 1999's The Earth Pressed Flat. The two then left in 2002 to pursue their careers as John & Mary.
Lombardo is also an artist aside from being a musician. His website includes a painting of his along with the location of a gallery where his paintings are displayed.
