Stanislaus Zbyszko (Polish: Stanisław Zbyszko) was a professional wrestler popular in the United States during the 1920s.

Career

Zbysko was born on April 1, 1879. He was of Polish extraction and extremely popular in the Polish-American community in particular. At the time, although often "fixed", professional wrestling probably contained more legitimate aspects of the actual sport of wrestling than is prevalent today. Sportswriters occasionally still accepted pro wrestling as a sport and covered its matches as if they were in fact legitimate sporting events, as they sometimes were. Zbysko's talent was regarded by many as genuine. On April 15, 1925, Zbysko was allegedly scripted to lose to Wayne Munn in Philadelphia, but either was too proud or too talented to allow Munn to defeat him, resulting in what is known in pro wrestling parlance as a shoot, and, from Munn's standpoint at least, a screwjob. Zbyszko appeared in the 1950 film Night and the City playing a famous wrestler.

Zbysko died on from a heart attack September 22, 1967.
