Mirjana Karanović (born January 28, 1957 in Belgrade) is a Serbian actress known for many important roles in former Yugoslav films during the past quarter of a century.
She made her screen debut in 1980 film Petrijin venac, earning accolades for her potrayal of illiterate Serbian woman. She is best known to international audience by her portrayal of mother in 1985 film When Father Was Away on Business.
In 2003 Mirjana Karanović again made history by appearing in Croatian film Svjedoci. She was the first actor from Serbia proper to appear in Croatian film since the break-up of Yugoslavia. In the film she played the role of Croatian war widow, which drew protests from right-wing sections of Croatian public.
