Profile of Jason Martin on Famous Like Me

Jason Martin is a musician from Southern California. His band is Starflyer 59 and it has produced several albums on Tooth & Nail Records. Starflyer 59 was one of the first bands on this label and shared the label with many hardcore bands outside of Jason's genre. His style of musicianship has been titled "shoegazing" - a wall of sound produced by a distorted electric guitar reminiscent of late 80's early 90's British bands.

Jason Martin at times, has a retro 50's look as is evident in his "Housewife Love Song" video where the fashion, sideburns, and even kitchen appliances depict the 50's era. Also, the role his wife plays and he plays as a husband in the video with her cooking/serving him dinner reflects a more traditional role that was once well known in the 50's. Jason also has been pictured on motorcycles with his collar up and long sideburns which intended a "greaser" 50's style.

Since 1993, Jason has developed a small but dedicated following of his music. He is a Christian and has never not mentioned a thanks to "Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" on every album he has produced. As is evident with his long career Jason has obviously had long term ambitions with his music. Yet he has never failed to mention Jesus as his Savior in hopes of attracting a more mainstream audience. Not all songs have a Christian overtone - in fact, some songs are simply words without any deeper meaning.

Jason drives trucks for a living; some songs such as "I Drive a Lot" are obviously about his occupation. Jason is the only member of Starflyer 59 that has played on every album - essentially, Starflyer 59 is Jason Martin.
