From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Janick Robert Gers (born January 27, 1957 in England, Hartlepool) is one of three guitarists in the heavy metal band Iron Maiden.
He was the lead guitarist of the band White Spirit before joining Gillan, a group formed by former Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan. After disbanding he played with various artists including Fish of Marillion and then, in 1990, played guitar in the first solo album of Iron Maiden's vocalist Bruce Dickinson, "Tattooed Millionaire". It was while he was recording this album that he was offered to join Iron Maiden, because of Adrian Smith quitting.
His solos are fast and furious, but he is a skilled composer. His main influence is Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple from whom he has got certain on-stage poses and soloing attacks.
Janick Gers was also in the band Gogmagog before Iron Maiden.
