From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Nicky Wire is the lyricist, bass guitar player and occasional vocalist with the Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers.
Born Nicholas Allen Jones in Tredegar, South Wales on January 20, 1969.
He married his childhood sweetheart Rachel in 1994 and they live in Wattsville with daughter Clara and Molly the dog.
He attended Oakdale Comprehensive with James Dean Bradfield, Sean Moore and Richey James Edwards where he took A-levels in politics and law. He later attended the University of Wales Swansea with Richey.
Nicky usually plays the Gibson Thunderbird, Rickenbacker, or more recently the Fender jazz bass and quite often dons a dress for their gigs although he has curtailed his glam since the mysterious disappearance of Richey in 1995.
He doesn't really live up to the typical rock and roll image and until recently still lived in an end of terrace house in a village near Blackwood. The other band members call him the boring one and he has extreme liking to hoovering.
He has however been known to cause controversy and once stated “In this season of goodwill, let’s pray that Michael Stipe goes the same way as Freddie Mercury pretty soon.â€
