Caroline Munro (Born January 16, 1950, Windsor, England) is a British actress and model who is best known for her many appearances in science fiction and action films in the 1970s and 1980s.
Munro's modeling career began when an acquaintance took some headshots of her and submitted them in a "Face of the Year" contest ran by a newspaper. Munro's pictures won the contest and soon, modeling lead to films. Munro's film career began in the mid-1960s with uncredited appearances in numerous films, including the 1967 James Bond film spoof, Casino Royale and 1971's The Abominable Dr. Phibes. She later rose to co-starring roles in films such as the Golden Voyage of Sinbad and several Hammer Horror films including Dracula A.D. 1972 and Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter. In 1977, she appeared in her most visible international role as Naomi, an ill-fated helicopter pilot in the Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me (around the same time, she was offered the role of the villainess Ursa in the Superman movies, which she turned down to play Naomi. The role eventually went to Sarah Douglas). Munro was also a popular pin-up girl during this time, though she refused to pose nude. In the early 1980s she appeared in music videos with Adam Ant and Meatloaf.
Munro continued to work in numerous British and European horror and science fiction films through the 1980s, notably in Starcrash with David Hasselhoff, Christopher Plummer and Marjoe Gortner. By the 1990s her career had slowed down; she made only one major movie appearance in the 1990s, though she continues to make occasional film and TV appearances into the 2000s.
Throughout the 1980s, Munro was often cited by the press as being a candidate for the co-starring role in a proposed, but never produced, feature film based upon Doctor Who; at varying times press reports linked her with numerous actors being touted to play the role of The Doctor, including David Bowie.
Munro has two daughters, Georgina and Iona.
