Frank Thornton was born Frank Thornton Ball on January 15, 1921 at Dulwich, London, England, United Kingdom. He's a British actor best known as Captain Peacock on the long running BBC series Are You Being Served? from 1972-1985, and later reprise his role for Grace and Favour (aka Are You Being Served? Again) in the USA from 1992-1993. In 1998 he took the role of Truly Truelove in Last of the Summer Wine. He can also be seen in Gosford Park (2001) as Mr. Burkett.
He guest starred in two of the episodes of the British television comedy series The Goodies.
