Nina Totenberg is National Public Radio's legal affairs correspondent. Her reports air regularly on NPR's newsmagazines All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and Weekend Edition. She attended Boston University, and is the daughter of violinist Roman Totenberg, who was a member of the faculty at Boston University.

The staff of Senator Paul Simon of Illinois leaked information from Clarence Thomas' FBI background file to Totenberg concerning sexual harassment allegations by University of Oklahoma law school professor Anita Hill after Thomas' nomination to the U. S. Supreme Court. No Senate staff members were ever disciplined in the breach of Senate Rules, as no investigation was made public by the then Democratic controlled Senate. Totenberg went on the air with the inflammatory allegations and subsequent hearings were held regarding their validity. Totenberg herself was never investigated for receiving and disseminating classified material.

NPR received a George Foster Peabody Award for the coverage of the confirmation hearings, anchored by Totenberg. Totenberg herself received several awards for the coverage, including the George Polk Award for excellence in journalism and the Joan S. Baron Award for excellence in Washington-based national affairs/public policy reporting (the latter also in part for her coverage of the retirement of Justice Thurgood Marshall. She has received many other awards, and been honored seven times by the American Bar Association for excellence in legal reporting.
