Denis Lawson as Wedge Antilles in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Denis Lawson (born September 27, 1947), is a Scottish actor, best known for his roles as Wedge Antilles in the Star Wars film series and as Urquhart in the film Local Hero. He has also gained some fame for being the uncle of actor Ewan McGregor, who also appeared in the Star Wars films, in the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was born in Perthshire, Scotland.

Lawson began his career with a small role in a 1969 stage production of The_Metamorphosis in London's West End. and has since starred in television dramas such as Rock Follies (1976), Dead Head (1986). During filming of That Uncertain Feeling (1985), he met his future wife, actress Sheila Gish. They lived together for nearly twenty years before marrying in 2004; she died a year later.

He reprised the role of Wedge Antilles in voiceover form, in the Nintendo GameCube game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2.

In 2001, Denis Lawson and Andrew Byatt, director of the Scottish Actors’ Studio, ran a workshop for actors, called The Actor's Cut. It was a success and Byatt secured the funds for a second workshop, The Actor's Cut 2 in 2004. In both workshops, course topics included reading and deciphering movie scripts, film terminology, working in close up, how to handle directors, technicians, make up and wardrobe people and other actors’ egos.
