Utpal Dutt (Bangla: উতà§à¦ªà¦² দতà§à¦¤) (March 29, 1929, Barisal in the then Undivided Bengal -- August 19, 1993, Calcutta, India) was an Indian actor, director and writer. He studied English literature at the St. Xavier's College, affiliated to the University of Calcutta.
He was active primarily in Bengali theatre, but did tour several times with the Shakespearean International Theatre Company. Dutt staged what he called "Epic Theatre" (a term he borrowed from Bertolt Brecht) to bring about discussion and change in Bangladesh. Utpal Dutt was also a very good comedian and his style of comedy is unparalled. He acted in the following comedy movies: Golmaal, Shaukeen
