From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Monique Kavelaars (born March 20, 1971 in London, Ontario) is a Canadian fencer. She was part of Team Canada's women's epée team who finished fourth at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. She is the only Canadian woman to ever win an individual match, in Epée Fencing, at an Olympic Event on August 15, 2004. She trains and lives in Toronto. She belong to the Toronto Fencing Club.
She was Miss Teen Canada in 1989. She has a twin sister named Ingrid Kavelaars who was runner-up in 1987 at that same pagaent, but Miss Teen London Ontario in 1987 and is currently an actress. They also has an older sister named Annette Kavelaars who won the Miss London Ontario pagaent in 1984 and completed in the Miss Canada pagaent. In total there are five silbings - four daughters and one son, Monique and Ingrid being the youngest. Their father John is a farmer and mother Anne is a homemaker. They live in Appin, Ontario, a suburb of London.
On the television series Jeremiah, which aired from 2002 to 2004, taught Luke Perry how to fence when she was a guest on the show. Sister Ingrid was a regualar on the series.
Both twins are married to former NHL hockey players. Monique is married to Andreas Karelsson on June 30, 2004 and lives in Toronto and Sweden. Ingrid is married to Dallas Eakins on June 29, 2001 and lives in Vancouver and in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Monique graduated high school from the Regina Mundi College in London, Onatario and York University in Toronto.
