From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Daniel Keyes (born August 9, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American author, primarily of science fiction. He is best known for his award-winning novelette, Flowers for Algernon, which was later adapted into his first novel of the same name. As taken from the book itself:
Daniel Keyes was born in Brooklyn and received his BA and MA degrees from Brooklyn college. He has been a merchant seaman, ship's purser, fiction editor and high school teacher. At the present time*, Mr. Keyes is on the English faculty at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
*This is taken from the March 1988 paperback edition.
The novel, Flowers for Algernon, has been challenged and even banned in certain schools and libraries for sexual scenes and the touchy subject of retardation.
Keyes married Aurea Vazquez in 1952. The couple have two daughters; Hillary Ann and Leslie Joan.
