Jack Davenport (born March 1, 1973) is a British actor.

Born in Suffolk, England, the son of actors Maria Aitken and Nigel Davenport. He is married to actress Michelle Gomez.

Early Life

Jack was born on March 1, 1973, the only child of Nigel Davenport and Maria Aitken, both of whom are well-established actors. For the first seven years of his life, Jack was raised in Ibiza, however, his parents also owned a small holding in Suffolk, where he was born. During the early years, Jack attended public school until his parents divorced, by which time he was seven. By the age of eight he was sent to The Dragon School, a boarding school, as his parents did not want him to become involved in the divorce proceedings; then going on after that to attend Cheltenham College.

Acting Career

Jack had never thought he would go into acting. However, his acting career sprung into action when he took a gap year after attending Cheltenham College. He was on a summer drama course and a director from Clwyd Theatr Cymru (The Welsh National Theatre) saw him, liked what he did and asked Jack to come and work for him. So, at 18 years of age he ended up in Wales, doing bit parts in Hamlet; where he became friends with Rhys Ifans ("Notting Hill"). The year after, he attended UEA (University of East-Anglia), where he concentrated on Film Studies and English Literature. He tried out acting once more at UEA, but was not, at this point, seriously interested in it. In fact, Jack had considered becoming a member of a film crew, as apposed to acting infront of the camera. It was not until his mother advised him - after his graduation from UEA - to write a letter to John Cleese, requesting to work on the set of his upcoming film, "Fierce Creatures", so that Jack could some real experience behind the camera. John Cleese, instead, sent Jack's letter to the casting department, and he was cast as a Student Zookeeper; a small part with very few lines. This was his very first taste of working in front of the camera, and it was at this point that he decided he liked it. After the production of "Fierce Creatures" was over, Jack found an agent, who gained him an audition for the role of Miles Stewart in "This Life". Since then Jack has gained roles in many successful films and TV dramas, including "The Talented Mr Ripley", "Coupling" and the recent box office smash "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl", the sequel to which is currently being filmed. During his career Jack has also turned his talents to voice acting, having narrated the audio versions of John Buchan’s "The 39 Steps" and recorded parts in Anthony Burgess’ "A Clockwork Orange" Most notably, however, he is the deep voice behind the famous "For everything else, there's MasterCard” television advert.

His Life Now

Jack currently lives with his wife, Michelle Gomez, whom he married on the 6th of May, 2000, after dated her for three years prior to their marriage. Jack is currently on set filming the sequel to "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl".
