Geraldine Chaplin (born July 31, 1944 in Santa Monica, California) is an Anglo-American actress. She was born the first child of Charlie Chaplin and his last wife Oona O'Neill (daughter of famous playwrite Eugene O'Neill). When Geraldine was only eight years old she appeared uncredited in her famous father's Limelight. Geraldine was educated in a boarding school in Switzerland. When her dream of becoming a ballet dancer ended, she followed in her father's footsteps and became an actress. Director David Lean chose her to play Tonya, the main character's devoted wife in Doctor Zhivago (1965). The movie is based on a novel by Boris Pasternak.

Geraldine Chaplin had a long relationship with Spanish director Carlos Saura, and she has starred in nine of his movies, including Cria (1976), Elisa, Vida Mia (1977), and Mama Turns a Hundred (1979).

She has two children, Shane and Oona, although she has never married.

She has appeared in numerous films through her long career. She played the role of her own grandmother Hannah Chaplin (Charlie Chaplin's mother) in the biographical film on her father Chaplin. Some of the most notable English language films include:

  • Cousin Bette (1998)
  • Gulliver's Travels (television) (1996)
  • Jane Eyre, 1996
  • The Age of Innocence (1993)
