An early film That Sinking Feeling discovered a teenage actor John Gordon Sinclair. Forsyth first came to public attention with the hit Gregory's Girl in 1981, which won 'Best Screenplay' in that year's BAFTA Awards and again starred Sinclair. He later wrote and directed the successful Local Hero for David Puttnam. When Puttnam went to Hollywood, Forsyth followed but with limited success.
