Jon Lovitz (born July 21, 1957) is a comedic actor who has been in many roles on TV and in movies, usually as a supporting character. He was a cast member of Saturday Night Live from 1985 to 1990. He has supplied voice acting talent in several animated series (most notably The Simpsons), including the lead character of Jay Sherman on The Critic, and animated movies. Lovitz' comic persona is an odd mixture of arrogance and low self esteem, which was used to great effect in his character "Tommy Flanagan, The Pathological Liar", from Saturday Night Live. His characters often start out acting very condescending to someone, only to end up grovelling for their attention. A common focus of his characters' affections is actress Morgan Fairchild.

Lovitz is also known for his friendship with the late Phil Hartman, whom he ended up succeeding on the series NewsRadio after Hartman was killed.

Lovitz attended and studied theater at the University of California at Irvine and graduated in 1979.
