Tony Jordan on the set of EastEnders

Tony Jordan is the lead writer and story consultant for BBC soap opera EastEnders and has written for the soap since 1985, he is considered to be a somewhat veteran of the soap.

He started writing when he was thirty two, but before this he was a former market stallholder. By 1989 he had wrote the first of more than 250 episodes for the popular soap.

During his time at EastEnders, he is best known for dreaming up the Slater family along with the then prodcer, John Yorke. He is also considered to have scripted some of the soaps most memorable episodes, including the deaths of Arthur Fowler and Ethel, Sharongate, and more recently Kat's revelation to Zoe that she is her mother not her sister, and the Andy-Kat-Alfie love triangle.

As EastEnders lead writer and story consultant, he is a freelance, so he is free to work on other projects, and in early 2004, he was one of the team responsible for the scripts for BBC1 con artist drama Hustle.

In 2004, it was announced that he was working with 19 management, the company owned by Simon Fuller, to develop a gritty American soap similar to that of EastEnders. But more recently has returned to EastEnders, set about reversing its fortunes. He has written the first two episodes (aired October 24th & 25th 2005) for the return of the characters of Phil and Grant Mitchell
