Vasily Borisovich Livanov is a Russian actor best known for playing Sherlock Holmes.
Livanov was born in Moscow, Russia in 1935. He played Sherlock Holmes in 12 films between 1979 and 1986. Vitali Solomin (1941-2002) played Doctor Watson. Rina Zelyonaya (1902-1991) played Mrs. Hudson. Borislav Brondukov (1938-2004) played Inspector Lestrade. Igor Maslennikov (b. 1931) was the director.

MORE ABOUT VASILI LIVANOV:
Besides Sherlock Holmes, Livanov played founder of Cheka Felix Dzerzhinsky, played Tsar Nicholas I, Don Quixote, Crocodile Gena, Karlsson, and others. Livanov has a notably hoarse voice. Recenlty, he celebrated his 70th birthday. Him and director Maslennikov are the only surviving members of the genenral cast of Russian Sherlock Holmes. Doctor Watson Vitali Solomin and Lestrade Brondukov both died several years ago at a relatively young age. Sherlock Holmes series was the last films where famous actress Rina Zelyonaya played. Mrs. Hudson was her last role.
