Dame Marie Tempest (15 July 1864 - 15 October 1942) was an English actress known as the "queen of her profession".

ACTRESS CELEBRATES 68TH BIRTHDAY SOON
LONDON, July 11, (C.P.) One of London's most popular actresses Marie Tempest will celebrate her 68th birthday July 15, next. She made her first appearance on the stage at the Comedy Theatre in 1885, and still has power to charm and please her audiences. She made her appearance at St. James Theatre London rectnly in "The Vinegar Tree", by Paul Osborn, an American author.
E.A. Baughan, drama critic of the News-Chronicle pays her the following tribute. The Cryptic title "The Vinegar Tree", will soon become synonomous with Marie Tempest at the very top of her form. She is a middle aged wife of a rude old man. Augustus Morrick, who beats her well and truly with his tongue. In the end she is grateful for a poor sort of an apology, and murmurs, "What a fool I have been".
"And she has been for she has mistaken a young painter. Mr. Lawrence for an old lover before her marriage and only discovers her mistake when her husband declares his name was Lawrance Mack and the he was a pianist. But what an adorable fool she is skipping from one irrelevance to another as a bird skips from twig to tig.
