From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Richard Russo (born July 15, 1949, in Johnstown, New York) is an American novelist and winner of the Pulitzer Prize. He earned a bachelor's degree (1967), a master's in fine arts (1980), and a Ph.D. (1979) from the University of Arizona.
His novel Empire Falls, published in 2001, won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. He has written four other novels: Mohawk, The Risk Pool, Nobody's Fool, and Straight Man, as well as a short story collection, The Whore's Child. Russo collaborated on the film Twilight with Robert Benton. Russo wrote the teleplay for the HBO adaptation of Empire Falls, and the screenplay for the 2005 film Ice Harvest.
