From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Ingo Hasselbach was once a neo-Nazi, preaching racism, anti-Semitism, and anti-government terrorism. He was the founder and leader of the first neo-Nazi party in East Germany, often referred to as "The Führer of the East." After changing his political ideology, he released an autobiography titled Führer Ex: Memoirs of a Former Neo-Nazi. This autobiography was subsequently filmed as Führer Ex, which was directed by Winfried Bonengel.
He co-founded the organization EXIT for former neo-Nazis.
Hasselbach was the only child of Communist parents. In 1987 he was sent to prison, where he met former Gestapo leaders in the East German jail. This link helped him rise up through the neo-Nazi hierarchy. After several key experiences, namely the murder of an immigrant family, he was inspired to publicly renouce his movement. He lived for a while in the USA and in Great Britain as a fugitive, in danger from former friends that have attempted to take his life. Today, he lives back in Germany and works as a freelance author and journalist.
