From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia

Cameron Crowe (born July 13, 1957) is an American writer and film director. His films have received high praise for his portrayals of multidimensional characters and funny, true-to-life human interaction.

He was born in Palm Springs, California and was raised in San Diego. When he was 15, Crowe began working as a music journalist, later becoming a contributing editor for the music magazine Rolling Stone.

His film career was launched at the age of 22 when he returned to high school to do research for a book called Fast Times at Ridgemont High, which would become successful as a film adaptation of the same name. Cameron Crowe made his directorial debut with the teen romance, Say Anything, a moderately successful cult hit. The film Jerry Maguire launched Crowe into greater recognition, netting five Oscar nominations, including a win for Cuba Gooding, Jr. for best supporting actor. The mostly autobiographical film Almost Famous and the subsequent American adaptation of Abre los ojos, Vanilla Sky, starring Tom Cruise, were both also quite successful. Crowe received an Oscar for his screenplay for Almost Famous.

In 1999, Crowe published Conversations with Billy Wilder (ISBN 0571201628), a book of interviews with the film director Billy Wilder, then in his early 90s.

He married the singer Nancy Wilson in 1986 and they have two children.
