Mel Harris (born 12 July 1957 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) is an American actress. She is best known for her role as Hope Murdoch Steadman in the popular 1980s television show Thirtysomething.
She was originally known as Mary Ellen Harris. She attended high school in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She has been married several times, and has one son and one daughter.
