Helmut Krausser

Helmut Krausser (July 11, 1964) is a German author, poet and playwright who was born in Esslingen am Neckar.

Biography

Krausser lives in Munich and Berlin. Married Beatrice Renauer in 1991.

In 1993 he received the Tukan Award.

After a few smaller novels his literary breakthrough arrived with Melodien oder Nachträge zum quecksilbernen Zeitalter. Because of the complexity and strong historical base of this widely recognized masterpiece, Krausser is often compared to Umberto Eco, however, he himself prefers to point out differences instead of similarities with Eco (source: Diaries 1992-2004). Since then, many of his books have been translated into multiple languages and plays of his have been performed all over the world.
