From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Ava Barber (born June 28, 1954, Knoxville, Tennessee) is a U.S. country singer, best known for her association with The Lawrence Welk Show, on which she was a regular from 1974 through the show's cancellation in 1982. Initially performing locally throughout her teen years with her brother's band, Barber contacted Lawrence Welk in 1973, at the suggestion of her mother. Despite the fact that she was largely unknown outside of the local Knoxville area, Welk granted Barber an audition and subsequently hired her. Her first appearance on the Welk show was in February of 1974.
She also had a series of charting country singles, during the late 1970s, her biggest hit being 1978's "Bucket to the South", which reached #13 on the U.S. country charts.
She still tours with various Welk cast members, and has appeared on a number of reunion specials on PBS.
