Duffy joined the cast of the television series Newhart in its second year, as the ditzy maid Stephanie Vanderkellen, which was probably her most popular of all roles. After Newhart's final episode, she appeared in various movies and sitcoms, playing the dumb blonde she is so good at.
After the end of Newhart, Duffy joined Designing Women replacing Delta Burke after she had a quarrel with the producers. Duffy was written off after one year and replaced by Judith Ivey, portraying BJ Poteet.
Duffy now sticks to occasional television guest spots and movies here and there. Her most recent film being the Coen Brother's Intolerable Cruelty (2005)
