From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Eddie Floyd (b. June 25, 1935 ) is a soul/R&B singer and songwriter best known for his work on the seminal Stax label in the 1960s and 1970s.
Floyd was born in Montgomery, Alabama and grew up in home of Motown, Detroit. Singer for The Falcons before being replaced by Wilson Pickett, he had several solo hits in the late 1960s, including his best known track Knock on Wood, covered by many including David Bowie, James Taylor and Ella Fitzgerald. He usually recorded with Stax house band Booker T. & the M.G.'s. He also wrote hits for the likes of Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding.
He also appeared in the second Blues Brothers movie, and has toured with the Blues Brothers band.
