From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Daniel Mainwaring (February 27, 1902 - 31 January 1977) was a successful novelist/screenwriter. The Oakland-born screenwriter began first as a journalist for the San Francisco Chronicle before writing for films. Mainwaring began his film career as a publicist which lead to him becoming a screenwriter. He often wrote under the name Geoffrey Homes. Under that pen name, he wrote the novel Build My Gallows High which was made into the film noir classic Out of the Past. Under his own name, Mainwaring penned the first film version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956).
