Ted Harris
His films are rarely available in any video store. Who is this man?
Ted Harris is an artist and puppeteer in the Philadelphia area, who has autism, a diesase that impairs socail skills. When Ted was born he had attended the Timothy School in Bryn Mawr PA and Devereux Day School in Malvern, PA, and later learned a trade from Elwyn Davidson School. He also studied acting at The Darlington Arts Center, and at Hedgerow Theatre.
Most of his movies which he does with his video camera have himself, his best friend JP, and his collection of homemade puppets. Ted had learned that puppetry was a way of performing in drama, so he built a stage, wrote some scripts, and with the help of his mom and best friend, designed and built the puppets. His Dad says he is quite good as a puppeteer.
For the adult crowd, Ted created a horror show called "Uncle Scary's Horror Theatre" which can make the best out of bad horror movies. The show featured a horror host called Uncle Scary, a 500-year old man of mystery.
For years Ted featured his puppet shows at birthday parties, private functions, day care centers, and nursing homes. In 2001 Ted moved to the Strath Haven condominium building, where he lives today.
Later Ted took up painting, and later began painting pictures. Most of the pictures are really whimsical, and appeal to the child in every adult. Most of his work is very fairy tale like.
Ted used to work with Philadelphia artist Robert Bullock, and he now works with James, a former graffiti artist turned artist. He also worked with Selene Platt, Pat Jordan, Jerry Perna, Barabra Gregson, and he met celebrities like Al Alberts, Arin Shemerian, Phil Fondacaro, Lou Ferrigno, Tom Kenny, and Seth Green
We hope that Ted Harris will continue for many years to come.
