From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia
Ron Tyson (born February 8, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an African American tenor/falsetto singer and songwriter. Tyson, raised in Monroe, North Carolina, is the current tenor for long-lived singing group The Temptations, filling the role made famous by Eddie Kendricks in the 1960s.
Before joining the Tempts in 1983, Tyson was lead singer of a Philadelphia soul group called The Ethics, which later changed its name to Love Committee. His brother David Tyson is a member of singing group The Manhattans. In addition to his work as a singer, Tyson has written songs for groups such as The O'Jays and Gloria Gaynor.
Tyson, who succeeds Kendricks, Ricky Owens, Damon Harris, and Glenn Leonard as the Tempts' falsetto, has been a member of the group for over twenty years, a tenure second only to group founder Otis Williams, who has been in the group over forty years. As a side project, he released a solo Christmas album, Christmas...My Favorite Holiday, in 2004.
