From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Yuri Norstein (Russian: ЮÌрий ÐорштеÌйн) is a Russian animator, most known for the animated short Tale of Tales. He grew up in the Maryina Roshcha suburb of Moscow, having been born on September 15, 1941 in the village of Andreyevka, Penza Oblast, during his parents' World War II evacuation.
Norstein uses a special technique in his animation, involving multiple glass planes to give his animation a three-dimensional look. He refuses to use computers in his work.
As of 2005, he is working on an adapation of Gogol's Overcoat, a project that has met numerous financial troubles. A couple of short, low-resolution clips from the project can be seen here and here.
