From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Martin Caidin (September 14, 1927- March 24, 1997) was an American author and an authority on aeronautics and aviation. Thanks to his novel Marooned (1964) that was later adapted as a film he has some claim to be the first writer to directly influence manned space flight.
Caidin wrote more than fifty books, including Samurai! and many classic works of military history, and more than a thousand magazine articles. Caiden established his own company to promote aeronautic subjects for a young audience and began writing fiction in 1957.
He twice won the Aviation/Space Writers Association award as the outstanding author in the field of aviation.
Caiden's style of fiction focused on acceptable projections of technical innovations with political and social repercusions. In this respect his work has some echo in the writing of Michael Crichton.
His famous book Cyborg was adapted for the TV movie and television series The Six Million Dollar Man.
Martin Caidin is also known for having restored the only and last surviving Junkers 52 aircraft to flying condition.
