Samantha Maloney was born in Manhattan, New York on December 11, 1975. She was raised in Queens, New York alongside her two younger siblings, sister Kristy and younger brother Bobby. Sam first discovered her true passion music in her upper middle class neighborhood. Sam received her very first drumkit when she was 5 years old. Playing her drums immediately became the main focus of her life. She practiced on her tiny kit day and night like a true pro. In a round about way, drumming also led Sam to her other passion- competitive sports. As a very small child Samantha's parents found their daughter had the stamina and athletic prowess of an Olympian, due to her constant drumming.

At 14 Samantha took her musical career to the next level. She attended the High School of Music, Art and Performing Arts, FAME in New York City, not far from her hometown. For the next three years she studied percussion extensively. At the age of 16, she auditioned for the post-hardcore band Shift as a fill-in, but they were so impressed with her she remained as their permanant drummer. While playing in Shift, Samantha was also the star of her school's basketball team. In 1993, she had to decide whether or not to pursue various college scholarship offers and have a serious basketball career or to continue on in her band Shift. Samantha chose to stick with Shift and in 1994 and 1995 they made two independent records on Equal Vision Records. In 1997, Shift signed to Columbia Records and made their major-label debut with an album titled, "Get In". After releasing Get In, Samantha and Shift toured diligently and gained major attention wherever they went because of their star female drummer. This was only the beginning of what was to come.

Then, in 1998, through a mutual friend, Samantha got the call that drummer Patty Schemel was out of Hole and that she should come to Los Angeles for an audition. She aced the audition and the band decided to go with her. After several years of rocking out with Shift, Samantha decided that it was time to leave and she officially joined up with Courtney Love acting as the backbone of the band Hole. Sam toured for 2 years and appeared on television, magazines, as well as Hole’s recordings and videos. At 22 Samantha was on the road with Hole at the height of their popularity playing sold out arenas and touring extensively in the US. Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

In 2000, Hole went on hiatus and Samantha was offered the drum chair for Mötley Crüe to fill in for then drummer Randy Castillo, who was ill at the time. She gave the aging rock band a needed boost to their live shows. Maloney learned to play drums by practicing along to records like "Shout At The Devil" and "Theater Of Pain" by her favorite band, metal’s tattooed bad boys, Mötley Crüe. Surprisingly, Mötley Crüe’s longtime fans welcome her with open arms.

After completing a rigorous touring schedule with Mötley Crüe, in January of 2001 Samantha made the move from New York to Los Angeles, California where she continued her musical journey. In February, she helped create music for Daryl Hannah's documentary about stripper called "Stripnotes". In May, she worked on the "desert session 7 and 8 " CDs with Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) , Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) , and Chris Goss (Masters of Reality). In June she and Scott Ian from Anthrax wrote music for the Mr. Show movie "Run Ronnie Run" as "Titanica". During this time Samantha added live drums to the score for the film "Black Hawk Down".

In 2002, Sam, alongside Melissa Auf Der Maur (Smashing Pumpkins/Hole), Paz Lenchantin, and Radio Sloan (The Need) created a new band called The Chelsea. Sadly, the powerful all female supergroup only played one show and quickly went their separate ways shortly thereafter. Much to Sam’s surprise the name the Chelsea would later resurface in her not so immediate future.

After a non-stop whirlwind career of working with and for others on their music, Sam decided that it was time to start composing her own album. In mid 2003 she began to turn down high- profile gigs in order to start writing music her solo project only to take a break to briefly fill in as the drummer for the band Scarling.

In 2004, just as Sam was getting started to complete her first batch of songs she received a call from former Hole front woman Courtney Love. Love asked Sam to fly to France (after drummer Patty Schemel departed for the second time) and play drums in order to complete her [solo debut], "America's Sweetheart". In France, Maloney and producer Linda Perry (4 Non Blondes) reportedly co-wrote most of the songs on Love’s album.

After returning to the States Samantha was put in charge of assembling Courtney’s live band. She reconnected with guitarist Radio Sloan, found guitarist Lisa Leveridge and bass player Dvin to form the core of the fierce female band. After Love only played with the band for a few weeks she decided to call her new band “The Chelsea” after Samantha’s previous project. After only a few dates Love's band was put on permanent hiatus. Luckily for Samantha she was asked by old friend Josh Homme to play in the band Eagles of Death Metal. Samantha accepted the gig and is currently touring successfully with Eagles of Death Metal opening for Queens of the Stone Age all over the world. The Eagles of Death Metal sophomore effort Death By Sexy is scheduled for release in January 2006.
