John Qualen (December 8, 1899 - September 12, 1987) was a film character actor.
He was born Johan Mandt Kvalen in Vancouver, British Columbia, and grew up in Elgin, Illinois. One of Qualen's memorable roles was as Muley, who recounts the destruction of his farm by the bank in John Ford's The Grapes of Wrath (1940). Qualen also appeared in Casablanca (1942), The Fugitive (1947), The Big Steal (1949), The Searchers (1956), and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962). Qualen also acted extensively on televsionin the 1970s, playing senior citizens.
John Qualen died of heart failure in 1987 in Torrance, California and was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.
