Born December 3 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Earl Pereira became the youngest in his family, with an older sister and three older brothers. Earl would later become the youngest in a band that would burst through the provincial boundaries of Saskatchewan, take hold of the national boundaries of Canada, and then extend onwards to the international music scene.

In grade four, Earl witnessed the involvement of his older brother in a band and decided that music might be something to try to be like his big brother. Moving on from his musical skills as pianist from lessons taken from ages 6 to 8, Earl made the decision to take guitar lessons at age 12. First mastering the song "Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House on guitar, Earl would later teach himself the skills that would not only emulate the brother he always admired but would create and result in a style of bass playing that would become so well-known to many.

After meeting Shaun Verreault when the Aden Bowman student introduced himself at the Holy Cross high school variety night when both Shaun and Earl were in grade 11 and later meeting Safwan Javed when he decided to go to the Aden Bowman high school variety night the following year, Earl's memories of his high school years include the song "Fool In The Rain" by Led Zeppelin, the first song that he remember playing with Shaun. Following graduation from high school, Earl studied at the University of Saskatchewan before leaving behind such favourite subjects as Physical Education and Physics and making the decision to join both Shaun and Safwan in their pursuit of a full-time career in music.

As the bassist of Wide Mouth Mason, Earl's skills physical energy on stage can often contrast with his seemingly low-key and quiet demeanour off-stage. His ability to use the energy from the audience to take his performance to another level is an amazing sight to see, as rarely can one view a musician who plays with such force both musically and physically. A man who often lets his action speak louder than his words, Earl's charisma and stage presence is a key factor to energising the audience that hears the band's music while his musical influences that include The Police and the sounds of Motown add a funky rock quotient to the musical equation that is Wide Mouth Mason.
